ISTimes Global: (00:00) We’re here with Karen, uh, part of the the World International School here in Osaka. I would say welcome to Osaka, but I guess it would have to be the reverse.
One World International School Osaka: (00:10) Yes. Thank you. Thank you.
ISTimes Global: (00:12) Uh, I I have noticed that uh you’ve been extremely busy here, very, very popular here in your hometown.
One World International School Osaka: (00:19) It’s it’s very good to know that because we only actually opened the school last year. Oh. So we uh we’re an original school from uh Singapore. So One World International School is from uh Singapore. And then Global, it’s under Global Schools Group and we decided to open a campus right here in Osaka in Ikunoku uh last year, last August. And right now we’re still uh we opened classes until grade seven, but we’re hoping to open classrooms until grade 12 um in the future, but it will still take a bit more time, but we are getting there. Uh we’re slowly increasing the number of students. But One World International School is part of a bigger network called Global Schools Group and right now we are in 11 countries with 64 campuses. And every, of course, not all schools are named One World International School. So every school has its own educational philosophies, every um different curriculums, different um teaching methods, but we’re still under all the same group and we use the same uh resources, uh which is I think very um different from other international schools here. It’s we’re part of a bigger network and which just make us really global.
ISTimes Global: (01:36) So this is so this is your founding year uh currently?
One World International School Osaka: (01:39) For always for One World International School Osaka, yeah.
ISTimes Global: (01:43) So uh even though it is your first year, you still get to benefit from all the history in this network of schools.
One World International School Osaka: (01:50) Yes, of course. I think that’s
ISTimes Global: (01:51) Which not all first first schools get to have.
One World International School Osaka: (01:53) Yes. And then that’s why I think that’s one of our main um attraction attractive points of the school is that even if it’s our first year, it’s not uh we use the years of experience, the years of um teaching that the the network has and that’s what we employ in the school. That’s why we it’s our first year but we are using 20 years, 30 years of experience in our school.
ISTimes Global: (02:24) And what draws families and parents to your school? Obviously, it’s been successful internationally. It certainly seemed uh very successful today at uh you know, the Expo. First year going into your second year next year. What do you think draws uh families?
One World International School Osaka: (02:40) I think one thing that draws families to our school is that as compared to other international schools in the area, our school is uh our school was uh originally a Japanese elementary school. So we renovated the place, we made it more colorful and then more welcoming and then it has a it has a very big playground, has a gym. And then unlike other international schools in the area, it’s usually within buildings, tall buildings. And then our school looks like a school, like where kids can run, play, play soccer during break time, play hide and seek. So I think that’s one um point that families love about our school. Uh That’s one thing they tell me all the time is like, oh it’s really um it’s really nice to have see kids playing uh freely in the grounds.
ISTimes Global: (03:38) That also sounds like a good reason why kids love the school.
One World International School Osaka: (03:41) Yeah, the kids love the school. Also, the teaching methods we have, we we employ the IB curriculum. Right now we’re still going uh we we’re still a candidate school, but we’re working towards getting all the certifications step-by-step. But we are getting there slowly.
ISTimes Global: (03:57) Are you looking to be a IB school from um uh primary to DP?
One World International School Osaka: (04:03) Yes. We are also get uh looking into going IB MYP and IBDP.
ISTimes Global: (04:08) Excellent. In the future. Well done. Well, we don’t have that much time but I but I would love for us to end with if um if a parent or a family would come to visit your school and they only have a short time, what is something that you hope that they will be able to see and capture and remember.
One World International School Osaka: (04:25) Okay, I see. Um, for our school, of course, we value um improving everyone’s academic abilities, English abilities in our school, but also what we value most is every kid has to learn, um we want to uh develop self- learners, learning from environment, and then we want them to have the value of kindness most of all, that they have to learn from the things around them. So, I hope we can get more students with the same values and who wants to be part of our community in the future.
ISTimes Global: (04:58) I um wish you lots of luck and I think uh you are I think your school is bound to uh succeed with all of the kindness and all of the people involved. Thank you. Thank you so much.
