

St. Mary’s International School (SMIS), founded in 1954, is a leading private all-boys international school in Tokyo. Located on a modern 9-acre campus in Seta, Setagaya-ku, the school serves approximately 900 to 1,000 students from the Readiness Program (Age 5) through Grade 12.
Affiliated with the Catholic Brothers of Christian Instruction, SMIS welcomes boys of all faiths and backgrounds and fosters character, resilience, and leadership within a diverse international community.
The school follows a rigorous American-based curriculum. Elementary and Middle School programs incorporate Common Core, NGSS, and AERO standards, along with specialized subjects such as Robotics and Design Technology. High School students earn a High School Diploma, and more than 85 percent pursue the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme.
All instruction is in English, with Japanese and other world languages offered. Student Support Services and EAL programs support students through Grade 8.
SMIS emphasizes three pillars: Academics, Arts, and Athletics. Facilities include one of the largest outdoor playing fields among international schools in Tokyo, a year-round heated 25-meter swimming pool, multiple science laboratories, and extensive performing arts programs supporting 14 music ensembles including internationally recognized choirs.
St. Mary’s International School is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and the Council of International Schools (CIS). Overseas applications are accepted year-round on a rolling basis, while local applicants typically follow an October 31 deadline.
Typically tuition fee is billed in July/August before the start of the academic year.

SMIS is strictly an all-boys day school (Readiness Program through Grade 12). They must submit transcripts from the current year and the previous two academic years.
