Horizon Japan International School (HJIS) is a private, co-educational Day School. It is located in Yokohama along the portside waterfront. The school was founded in 2003. HJIS serves over 500 students from more than 37 nationalities. The school is recognized as a Gakkō Hōjin. HJIS offers Preschool through Grade 12. It is a full IB Continuum World School. This includes the Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP), and the Diploma Programme (DP). The curriculum uses US Common Core standards. English is the main language of instruction. Japanese (Kokugo/JAL) and Spanish are secondary languages. The student-teacher ratio is very low at 6:1. The campus is state-of-the-art and opened in 2019. Facilities include science labs, creative studios, and a rooftop sports area. The school offers many After School Programs (ASP). These programs cover activities like Robotics, Soccer, Graphics Design, Chess, MUN, and the School Band. HJIS holds prestigious accreditations from WASC and CIS. Admissions run on a rolling basis, accepting applications year-round.
