

Tokyo International School (TIS) is a modern, non-profit, co-educational day school centrally located in Minato-ku, downtown Tokyo, serving a highly diverse expatriate community representing over 73 nationalities with no single dominant culture. Founded in 1994, TIS is recognized as a fully authorized IB Continuum World School for its foundational stages, offering the Primary Years Programme (PYP) from Kindergarten to Grade 5 and the Middle Years Programme (MYP) from Grades 6 to 10. The school is currently implementing the rigorous IB Diploma Programme (DP), with Grade 11 starting in the 2025-2026 academic year, ensuring a seamless IB education from K through 12. Instruction is entirely in English, with Japanese taught up to Grade 10, and the parent community organizes additional home language teaching programs. TIS is committed to a family-friendly and supportive environment, maintaining an average class size of approximately 22 students and providing dedicated support from a Learning Support Teacher, an English as an Additional Language (EAL) Support Teacher, and a counselor. The school’s facilities are modern, and TIS is establishing a major new campus within the innovative TAKANAWA GATEWAY CITY urban complex, set to open in August 2026. This new campus will feature modern classrooms, dedicated science labs, a Design studio, a Library, Art studios, a Music studio, and a Black Box theater, alongside a large Gymnasium and outdoor play areas. Beyond the curriculum, TIS offers extensive after-school co-curricular activities and is a member of the Kanto Plain Association for Secondary Schools (KPASS) Sports League, emphasizing its unique approach of integrating learning with the city through its "Tokyo As Our Classroom" philosophy.

Offers extensive after-school co-curricular activities including cultural, arts, sciences and sports activities such as STEAM Club, Multisports, Video Making, Manga Drawing, Guitar, Speech, Rock Climbing, Choir, Introduction to Programming, and Kids-4-Kids, a community service-based club for younger students, provides early and late bus transport to accommodate them. Focuses on integrating learning with the city ("Tokyo As Our Classroom"), connects students directly with the city’s rich environment, making concepts more meaningful and memorable, Signature trips including residential journeys from Gr 3-10, Annual Ski trips, overseas learning trips in Gr 10. TIS is a member of the Kanto Plain Association for Secondary Schools (KPASS) Sports League and Upper School students get a chance to compete in Cross Country, Soccer, Volleyball, Basketball, and Track & Field.
