Tokyo International Progressive School (TIPS) is a specialized non-profit international day school located in Setagaya, Tokyo, founded in 2000 to support students in Grades 4–12 (ages 9–18) with mild learning differences such as ADHD, dyslexia, and social or emotional challenges. Unlike large mainstream international schools, TIPS is intentionally designed as an alternative education environment with small classes capped at 10 students, allowing for individualized instruction, structured routines, and strong social-emotional support. The school follows a hybrid academic model integrating American Common Core standards with the University of Nebraska High School (UNHS) secondary program, leading to an American High School Diploma. English is the primary language of instruction, with leveled Japanese language and culture classes offered. TIPS provides extensive in-house learning support services, including occupational therapy, speech therapy, counseling, assistive technology, movement breaks, and differentiated instruction tailored to each student’s profile. Located near the Tama River in Futako-Tamagawa, the purpose-built campus offers a supportive and psychologically safe environment, while utilizing nearby community sports facilities for physical education. With approximately 60–80 students and a strong mentorship model, TIPS maintains a high post-secondary placement rate, with around 85% of graduates moving on to colleges and universities worldwide, making it a strong choice for families seeking structured academic rigor combined with expert support for neurodiverse learners.
