Kunimoto Alberta International School (KAIS) is a unique international program within the historic Kunimoto Gakuen campus in Setagaya, Tokyo, designed specifically for girls in Grades 7–12 who want both a strong Japanese educational foundation and global academic opportunities. Established in 2020, the program combines the Alberta Program of Studies with the Japanese national curriculum, allowing students to graduate with a double diploma—the Alberta High School Diploma and a Japanese High School Diploma.
The school uses a “scaffolded English” learning model where students gradually transition from Japanese-based instruction in Grade 7 to English-taught core subjects such as mathematics, science, and social studies by Grade 9. With small class sizes, Alberta-certified teachers, and a supportive bilingual environment, KAIS focuses on developing strong academic skills, English proficiency, and critical thinking. This approach prepares students for both Japanese and international universities while maintaining a strong connection to Japanese culture and traditions.
Two indoor gymnasiums, rooftop sports field for physical activities, outdoor tennis court, and campus spaces used for sports such as basketball, lacrosse, futsal, and tennis through school teams and clubs.
Art classrooms and creative studios, music and band practice spaces, dance activity areas, photography and media resources, and a traditional Japanese tea ceremony room for cultural arts activities.
Modern ICT-integrated classrooms, dedicated English language lab, computer and digital learning resources, science laboratories with modern equipment, and technology-supported teaching aligned with the Alberta curriculum.
