EPSOM College in Malaysia
ISTimes Global: (00:00) Hello, we are here with Reno from Epson College. Welcome.
EPSOM: (00:04) Thank you so much.
ISTimes Global: (00:05) And welcome to Osaka.
EPSOM: (00:07) Thank you for having us.
ISTimes Global: (00:08) Uh, you’ve been quite a busy all day, so I’m glad that we have had a chance to finally talk to you.
EPSOM: (00:13) Finally. Yeah, it’s almost done, right? Yeah, that’s right.
ISTimes Global: (00:16) So, um, you are located in Malaysia. So, um, I know that there’s a Japanese population there. There’s a quite growing global uh international community. Um, so I would love to hear about your school and about what kind of opportunities you give to the international community and maybe talk a bit about your school school culture. if I may be great. Thank you.
EPSOM: (00:39) Sure. So actually we came from international uh Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur. So we are international school as the boarding boarding school. So we offer like uh how to say like uh Cambridge uh curriculum. So we accept from three years old until 18 years old. Yeah, so we have a prep school and the senior school.
ISTimes Global: (01:04) And uh so you have so you graduating class uh graduates uh at 18.
EPSOM: (01:12) Then go to the university. Yeah, usually they will choose of course like UK university, but also they will get the A level. So go to US, uh of course go back to Japan or Hong Kong or uh Australia, yeah, all over the world.
ISTimes Global: (01:29) And what about your school you find really attracts parents and children to your school?
EPSOM: (01:36) Okay, so actually, because maybe the first reason is boarding, you know? Because uh we can accept uh from 11 years old. If they are 11 years old, they can uh come to our school as the boarding border, I mean border student. So this makes them easy to make them like independent, leadership and time scheduling. So it’s really famous for Japanese parents. And also, uh we are how to say like uh partnership with Air Asia. So from here, Osaka, and we have a Haneda, we have a direct flight to Kuala Lumpur. So easy for them to having uh to Malaysia.
ISTimes Global: (02:21) Fantastic. So a school that’s actually connected to an airline. I think uh you might be the first.
EPSOM: (02:26) Yeah, I think so. So actually we our location is also like uh slightly nearby uh International airport. So it’s around 15 minutes by car. So it’s good for the parents as well.
ISTimes Global: (02:39) I also uh I also heard that your school is quite popular for uh seasonal programs.
EPSOM: (02:44) That’s true. Yes. We have a lot of camps whole year. We have maybe we are quite famous for summer camp, three weeks, but also we have a two weeks camp as well. And uh uh this year we don’t have winter camp, but we actually have a like Hakuba snow camp as well. So some of them
ISTimes Global: (03:01) Oh, sounds like so much fun.
EPSOM: (03:03) Yeah. Do you do you ski? Okay, that’s all. Maybe you can join that. But anyway, so we have a spring camp as well. So this kind of like camp is almost like uh English camp, learning camp, but also we have a junior MBA camp, so they will learn about business, technology, marketing, etc. So yeah, we have a lot of camps actually. And also sports camp as well. Tennis camp, golf camp and football.
ISTimes Global: (03:32) So, as a parent, I can clearly see why as a parent I would love uh your school. But if I would ask kids or the uh students that go to your school, what do you think they would say by why they like the school or why uh why they feel such um closeness to it.
EPSOM: (03:50) Okay, I see like uh actually uh 70% of the the student is Japanese and they love here because uh what to say like I I don’t think like they they can feel such kind of facility or sports and uh uh this quality of the curriculum in Japan. So they feel, wow, this is very special and it’s our school is like actually it’s really Harry Potter. You know? So they have a boarding friends and a class friend, then we have a CC friends. So I think a lot of community they can build their like make make them mature. Yeah, so it’s kind of quite popular for them as well.
ISTimes Global: (04:34) How often would the kids then uh come back to see their families if
EPSOM: (04:38) Uh definitely three times. of course between term and term, but we have a uh kind of like half term as well. Some student will go back to Japan, I mean go back to home, but uh some will be stay in boarding house or guardian house. So maybe definitely three times. Yeah, between terms and town.
ISTimes Global: (04:57) I see. Um Now, you have graduates coming uh and going. Uh what do you think some of your um graduates uh might say once they leave your school? What is something that might stay kind of stay with them in their hearts, in their minds after having experienced uh absent.
EPSOM: (05:20) So actually, they can learn a lot of like uh leadership, communication and uh time schedule, etc. So it help when they go to the university and when they go to the, you know, like society. So I think it’s gonna be help for them. And also they will they will choose UK university like as a because we play by uh provide the UK style. So they go to the UK university, but also go back to Japan, but even go back to Japan, they choose like English course. You know, not not not go back to Japanese uh style education. So even go back to another country, they how to say like they have a confidence and yeah, I think that is the most point for them. Yeah.
ISTimes Global: (06:16) Excellent. Well, thank you so much. I really enjoyed learning so much about your school.
EPSOM: (06:21) Oh, thank you so much. You must come here.
ISTimes Global: (06:23) I will I’m just um looking at all of these beautiful pictures. Thank you so much. It makes it makes me want to go. but also you seem to have quite a bit of things happening here in Japan too. That’s right. So yeah. lots of fun. Thank you so much.
EPSOM: (06:35) Thank you so much. Appreciate it.
