NUCB International College

ISTimes Global: (00:00) Hello, we are here with uh Tachikawa from uh NUCB International College. Welcome.

NUCB International College: (00:06) Hello.

ISTimes Global: (00:07) Uh so I would love to hear more about your school. I I I I know it’s a high school. Yep. And uh it’s it’s uh it’s got it is uh connected to uh Nagoya’s uh business school. Uh it seems to be quite unique. So I’d love to hear more about it.

NUCB International College: (00:23) Thank you. Thank you. Let me talk about our university and our high school here. I’m from Ichi and that’s where our school is located. So, our school opened up in year 2022. So it’s still new. But uh we have many uh unique way of education as a matter of fact. Uh we only offer students studying in the high school level. So students coming to our school must complete uh junior high school in Japan or students must complete grade nine, then come to our school. Okay? And when they come to our school, they have to start Japanese high school curriculum first. But they have to study in English. They have to study Japanese curriculum in English. And after one years, all of our students will start IB curriculum. As a matter of fact, we call International Baccalaureate diploma program. That’s the program students take right before they’re going to universities. So our school is basically a school to be well prepared for universities. And students will have opportunity to select university here in Japan or they can also apply for university overseas because they have two diplomas. Japanese hospital diploma and IB certification after completing the IBDP program. Okay, that’s very unique about our school. And uh because of the category of our high school, Article one, that’s what we are uh certified by the Japanese government. So students will have to do certain hours of study in the school and in the dormitory. Because we have two curriculum going at the same time. Uh students have to have many hours of uh studying. They have to have some certain assignments they have to study in the evenings after their classroom. That’s why we are full boarding school. Uh to be honest, students are pretty busy doing uh all the curriculum and the same time they have to be involved in different extracurricular activities uh in the dormitory. Sometimes we go outside the campus and visit many facilities where they can learn about Japanese cultures and they can also uh do some research on their specialties. For example, some students want to go to study in the science uh specialized university, they visit the science museum or they do some field works uh in the mountains or uh in the coast of Japanese uh ocean where they can interact with local people and they can also see the nature of Japan. After those experience uh here in the high school, they get to go to university where they want to study in some specialized field of study. So that’s really unique. And I think we are proud of that.

ISTimes Global: (03:52) Now, you also mentioned that you’re a full boarding school.

NUCB International College: (03:54) Yeah, yeah, that’s right.

ISTimes Global: (03:55) So uh tell tell me a bit about the boarding experience and the culture because for some Japanese parents or families, that might be an intimidating thing. So uh tell us a bit about uh the boarding experience.

NUCB International College: (04:06) Okay. Okay, sure, sure. Uh as I have mentioned in the very beginning, we are located uh with same campus of universities. Uh so this is our school right here. This is our dormitory, which is this building right here. And this is our school building where the all the classrooms are. And all these here are university facilities. But we share all these because we are in the same organization. So students can be involved with all kind of sports activities and they get to use other facilities like a golf range, uh Japanese archery field, of course, they can use their library of university. So we are pretty uh fortunate about uh the campus because this campus offer so many different activities. And this is really uh safe environment for students coming from overseas with all the uh you know, uh the forest and uh the beautiful uh area where they can just relax. Of course, as I mentioned, they have to study hard. Okay. So, uh the good thing about living in the dormitory is that students always help each other. They help each other in their homework, assignments. Uh if some students are being uh slow in particular assignments or subject, some students will always uh be there with them to help them. And of course, teachers are also living on the same campus so they can also help. And uh you know, the half the students, maybe I mentioned it already, half the students in our school are from overseas and the other half are Japanese students. So Japanese students learn and improve their English because they are always living with uh native English speakers. And for international students, they get to go outside the campus on the weekend and they always discover some of the Japanese uh experience like a Japanese food, good Japanese food, good place to visit for tourist, you know spots, or historical spots. And uh Japanese students also show international student uh uh how to enjoy uh the Japanese, you know, way of living. They always go to Japanese grocery stores and shop food and cook together Japanese dishes. That’s something that they enjoy uh other than you know, the life uh on the weekdays. Weekdays they are focusing on the classes and homeworks but weekends, they are so much fun. Uh they have been so much fun going out and seeing all these places that they can visit right outside the campus.

ISTimes Global: (06:59) Well, it seems like you you’ve been able to build a sense of community with the foreign students and the Japanese students. Um I think that’s great especially having a dorm life. Uh I think having those kinds of friendships is very important.

NUCB International College: (07:16) Yeah, you’re right.

ISTimes Global: (07:17) Um when a child or a student graduates from your school, um what do you think is uh something that they will remember most about your uh about Okay.

NUCB International College: (07:27) Yeah, I believe that they’re the friendship they you know, built during the years that they stay uh will I think be appreciated on you know, for many years. I think because they live together uh for three years in this community, uh they are almost like a family. So that friendship is going to last forever. And other than that, uh that support that we give them to uh go to university that they want to study and and do research. I think they will uh use that resource that we provide them uh a lot, I guess. Because you know, because we have university right on the campus, we can provide what to do to be accepted to university all over the world. We will tell them what to do if they want to go to Japanese university. There’s some certain requirements and tests that they have to go through. And we all we are pretty much expert in that. So they can go to Japanese university. And we are also expert in IB. So they will use the IB and their IB score will help them find university anywhere in the world.

ISTimes Global: (08:41) Well, thank you. That was that was NUCB International College. Uh Mr. uh Mr. Tachikawa, thank you so much.

NUCB International College: (08:49) Welcome, welcome. It’s my pleasure.

ISTimes Global: (08:50) And for and for telling us so much about your lovely school. Thank you very much.

NUCB International College: (08:54) Not at all.
