What is success and happiness? Where does happiness come from? Is it wealth? Are there attributes to a successful and happy future? Can schools train them? These were the guiding questions to A-JIS Transforming Education Symposium 2, hosted by Aoba-Japan International School MYP/DP last Friday, April 14th.

The symposium was divided into the following main sessions:

Opening

Amazing opening of Transforming Education Symposium 2 by our A-JIS Handbell group followed by the performance ‘Maple Leaf Rag’ of Mr. Allen Chang (G11 learner). Mr. Ken Sell, Head of School, welcomed all the participants and Mr. Shibata Iwao, Board Chair and BBT Director, gave us a presentation about Education and role of Schools.

Presentations and Interviews

Our special guests brought us engaging and interesting presentations followed by an interview with Mr. Susumu Takahara, Vice Chairperson Hikarigaoka Residential Organizations Association (KORENKYO).

Education Fair

Our learners presented and described their projects about education in front of our special guest, parents and teachers. They supported their ideas with flyers and presentations and gave detailed answers to all the questions visitors had.

Panel discussion

We gathered a panel of experts of the panel discussion. Our young learners were engaged to ask them questions about the future of education.

We’d like to thank all the special guests, parents, local educators, learners, teachers and staff who helped the symposium be the success it was! We have learnt a lot from the process and from the ideas presented by learners.

From now to the end of the year, learners will be encouraged and supported to see through their proposals for change and gain success in improving life and learning in the school. Branching out from this, learners are invited to start creating proposals for taking wise action on issues they are concerned about in the wider community.
